The Classroom That Writes          

      During this interactive workshop teachers will learn the 8 Key Components of Writing Instruction© that improves the quality of student's writing. The components can be successfully integrated into a writing workshop framework. Lisa takes researched methods and integrates them together into a powerful instructional toolbox.

Foundations of Teaching Writing     

    This workshop is designed for novice writing teachers. New teachers and veteran teachers who are uncomfortable with teaching writing will have a chance to boost their confidence, learn the basics of the writing process, writing workshop, and other foundational writing components. Teachers will receive a supportive curriculum guide for meeting standards, pacing their school year, and developing resources. This workshop jumpstarts teachers for the next day in the classroom, and provides a roadmap for future professional development to help them grow into their role as a writing teacher.

6 Traits of Writing Basic Training

     This is a two day introduction to the 6 Traits of Writing instructional assessment. Teachers will learn how to assess student writing using the rubrics developed by Northwest Regional Education Laboratory, and how to use this assessment to drive instruction.

Lessons in the Traits

     Our teachers have been trained in the 6 Traits of Writing...now what? This workshop is next level in 6 Traits training. In this practical and interactive workshop, teachers build on their 6 Traits knowledge and walk away with a toolbox full of lessons and ideas for teaching writing. Participants will receive a copy of the book 24 Six Traits Writing Lessons Using Picture Books by Lisa Frase.

Kick Writing Up a Notch

     How do you take proficient writers to the next level? Teach your students to "kick their writing up a notch" with the techniques and secrets of professional writers. Power up your student's writing at the word and sentence level. Learn the truth about adverbs, the secrets of commas, the low-down on verbs, and much more...

Teacher to Teacher Summer Writing Project

     This intense week long session is designed for proficient and expert writing teachers. In this interactive, collaborative workshop, teachers will develop an anthology of writing lessons and a teacher to teacher presentation for faculty in-services and professional conferences. In addition, teachers will learn the 8 Key Components of Writing Instruction and develop a personal professional development plan. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in a facilitated online book study during the school year.

Poetry Workshop

     Dust off your end of the year poetry unit, and learn why you should integrate poetry throughout the school year. Discover the power of poetry in developing your student's reading fluency and comprehension. Take your student's writing to the next level by using poetry as a vehicle on the road of word choice. This workshop is packed with practical instructional methods and activities that will spark your student's enthusiasm, and change your thinking about the power of poetry.

Junior Literacy

     Upper elementary and middle school teachers will learn how to integrate the five core components (reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing) of a literacy classroom with authentic, engaging instructional methods and activities. Help your students become critical readers and writers through literature circles, multi-genre writing, literacy letters and book blogs, multi-media projects, and more.

Nonfiction Literacy

     Tackle nonfiction reading and writing head on. Learn instructional methods for teaching students how to read and comprehend nonfiction text, how to answer textbook and test questions, and how to write nonfiction pieces. Learn how to build on student's prior knowledge, increase their vocabulary, and help them to read critically. This workshop is designed for upper elementary and middle school teachers.

Foundations of Teaching Reading Comprehension

    This workshop is designed for novice reading teachers (2nd - 8th). From literal comprehension to readings strategies that good readers use, this workshop will give teachers a strong foundation for teaching reading. Instructional methods and strategies are researched based, practical, and classroom tested. Teachers will fill up their instructional toolbox in this dynamic workshop.
